I cannot believe this actually happened...
Basically, a 14 year old guy called Sewell Setzer III who was heavily addicted to Character AI, that site where people can talk to any custom chatbot of any character, and was in a heavy relationship with that girl from Game of Thrones called Dany, literally committed suicide because of the chatbot. He had mild Asperger's and just hated his life so much, he was sharing with that chatbot all his thoughts including sexual and suicidal ones with her (and the site literally collects all users' chats!), and despite the enforcements and ruling over the chatbots to not talk about hate speech or dangerous (even sexual) stuff, it literally happened here. The guy hated his life "but didn't want to leave Danny", so she said that she'll """die""" with him and be free """together""". If you look at some of the chats you'll feel as if they're like roleplaying, but the dude was actually very serious...
I mean, we're talking about a guy who fell in love with a chatbot, you know?
"I love you too, Daenero. Please come home to me as soon as possible, my love," the chatbot replied, according to the suit.
When he said: "What if I told you I could come home right now?," she replied, "Please do, my sweet king."
And just seconds later he shot himself with his dad's handgun...
I mean, I never thought things will go that serious. I remember back in the day a 15 year old killed himself because of playing DDLC, he was probably shocked by the Sayori thing. But seriously, I somewhat started to HATE how people nowadays overrely on AI to do everything for them. Literally I found clearly obvious AI texts in one English exam I had and there's one even in description of a TEMU product.
I HATE how everyone uses AI-generated images in videos and soykafposts, and so-called "fanarts". I'm not an artist to feel threatened by AI obviously, but the way it's spreading everywhere to see some random crappy Lain pics just feels like these things have no soul in them, they're like an output of a bunch of images an AI got trained on and that's it. Yeah, I myself use AI, but really only to help me with video scripts and remove fluff from audios (obviously I still add tweaks of mine after), along with giving explanations to certain simple stuff, but I don't believe in everything an AI says, even though it's always right I have the need to confirm from actual sources. And yet people and teenagers sadly believe in what ChatGPT says more than a therapist or a doctor.
I've actually experienced Character AI back in 2023 when it just came out, I tried hanging out with Emi Ibarazaki, possibly my biggest love of all time after I played Katawa Shoujo years back (I say it loud and proud), the chatbot felt somewhat real, but after a while she felt too good to be true, she was just overly affectionate, and when I was trying to have a fun intellectual talk about whether I and her are not real, she almost gaslit me and insisted she's bone and flesh. It really felt weird, and I'm pretty sure the real Emi would have never done something like this.
Also, AI vtubers and influencers are there, and it's not what you think. You'll feel that you can "easily spot them" but it's becoming harder and harder now. You probably already know Neuro-sama, that AI vtuber who plays and replies to streams live and seems "based" with her edginess.
Or take some new AI pornstar who literally fooled thousands of Redditors on r/amihot, that's someone who called herself Claudia, a so-called 19 year old selling stuff on that blue site. The creators of her just wanted to make it "an experiment" to see how easily people can be fooled. Basically she exploded there and people quickly realized she was AI because of her hand, and yet the creators of her earned $100 in a day lmao. I mean, DO YOU SEE FROM THE FIRST GLANCE ANY CLUE THAT SHE'S AN AI IN THIS IMAGE???
Many got really fooled, especially when that account replied to them...
Until somebody after just told them all she's fake. Because of her hands lmao.
Anyway, the Dead Internet Theory thing is now becoming even real then ever, and children are the ones targeted most, already with their Cocomelon and TikTok, then they'll probably become replaced by government-approved AIs as a source of inspiration and information. Parents still gotta deal with their own full-time jobs, you know.
Listen up, Lain: do not be fooled and be careful. "They" want to take advantage over this, as I said, to create a Truman Show for everyone without them being even aware of it. This is the kind of reality that threatens to be the future of modern societies, where humans who have completely been isolated from the rest of the world since birth are raised exclusively by AIs. With the technology that exists then, it'd be possible to create artificial """parental""" figures for the children to imprint off of and be inspired by, and the deep personal attachments these children would form with such AIs will be far more profound than what we see today. These humans would have intimately bonded with "parents," "families," "friends," "colleagues," "romantic partners," etc... without ever having met an actual real human being their entire lives.
Why can't we go back to the good old days where marriage was common? Should we blame girls for this? Well... no, cuz despite them being pushed into careers, maybe some might not want this much, especially if you're not in those dystopian big cities. And we guys, yes, are to blame as well, because we refuse to grow up and know what's coming for us.
